Resonance: Understanding Prophecy and Divine Providence
The real key to understanding how reality works is understanding why things don't make sense
Basically, you know when a song hits you for reasons you can’t understand? There’s something your soul finds in that music, and that it finds in you, and you can’t quite explain why? And it’s not your conscious mind. I’ve seen and heard about multiple babies who just calm down when a particular song is played. There’s no rational reason you like one song over another. It just is. It just hits you. My niece, when she was a baby, didn’t stop crying whenever Maroon 5’s “Sugar” was played because she liked the lyrics or thought it was an excellent song in the pop genre or whatever. It just hit a deep part of her brain that’s not governed by thoughts we can verbalize. This applies to lots of things other than music. Art. Writing. Intellectual movements (Kotzk for me). People.
And it's not anything rational. If anything, the less rational the subject, the less you’re able to verbalize the why of that feeling, the stronger it feels. Music and art, for example, resonate in ways the written word doesn’t. It’s not something that operates according to rules. It’s not something that works the same in every person according to rational principles. In fact, it differs wildly from person. “Sugar” by Maroon 5 does not calm down every baby, like my friend’s son who had the same reaction to “The Narwhal Song.” There doesn’t seem to even be anyone alive with the same things that resonate with them as anyone else. It’s all extremely unique to each person.
So my theory is that we have souls or whatever, and they’re sent here with our bodies from God with instructions. You need to do xyz for reality to work, because you’re filling this niche, that causes this to happen. Therefore, we’re giving you the following traits, the following inclinations, and we’re tuning it to a particular frequency so you get the right nudges along the way for your development. And your soul is looking to find resonance, to find the right frequency so you can get the right directions. And we don’t know our frequency. It’s not something you really can even really say to “know”. You don’t know it, you tune it. And when something just hits you in the right way, in a way that tells you on a cellular level “this is something that is going to be important to me”, when it resonates in you, that’s your soul finding the right frequency, and that’s your soul getting directions, and you’re getting your stage directions for your role in everything, to find your little slice of reality, to accomplish the thing you’re supposed to accomplish, to influence others in all the huge and tiny ways that help them accomplish their things, in this impossibly complex web of chaos that is being woven by God towards the End of History.
As an example, I have long held a belief in direct divine intervention for books. My experience in life has been that God has always put the right book in my hands exactly when I need it, in ways that are sometimes frightening. I found Kotzker Chassidus in high school not because I had become interested in it and researched it, but because years earlier my prize for participating in a summer camp learning program was a book about Kotzk that I randomly decided to read years later. Often I find that I “accidentally” read books that connect exactly to a seemingly unrelated thing I’m currently interested. It’s as if my soul is able to unconsciously find what it needs to read. I don’t know if anyone else has this experience, but I do believe that God puts the book you need in your hand when you need it. And that need is dictated by your soul, which is what receives instructions from God.
You’re tuned to find the things you need to find. That’s what your soul is for.
This is the only thing that makes sense to me about how the world works.
So some takeaways.
